Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 Netbook (ep.7)

Netbook good for students

I have a laptop that I use primary home, but needed something that was lighter to carry the school, make Internet browsing and basic word processing. After searching for months, despite the mediocre reviews on Amazon I decided to settle for the Dell Mini 1018. Note, I paid much less in the Microsoft store (new and not refurbished) when it was on sale for less than $ 220 (taxes included).
Pros:
-Light
-Battery life is approximately 6 to 6.5-hour lighting in lower screen (although some others have a netbook battery life is enough for me). Even the lighting lower screen is usually good enough for me to see.
-The keyboard is nice and I can use it comfortably.
-The build quality looks great.
-I can browse YouTube, videos from CNN and other videos usually without the image being agitated or distorted (unless I’m running several programs).
-Considering the small size, the speakers are surprisingly large. Even better than my Gateway T-6836 laptop but I’m not going to increase the volume above 80 in the fear of sucking.
-This netbook is not very hot as my laptop only after several hours of use. So do not have an internal fan does not seem to be a problem.
-The built-in camera and microphone will allow me to use Skype and AOL Instant Messenger video chat without any problems.
Cons:
The netbook is slow, but sufficient. It’s not like an idiot as a result of the performance all the netbooks.
-Comes with Windows 7 starter (if I upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise and I am happy).
-The mouse pad is a little wider than necessary, but a little shorter than I would).
No plug-in external microphone if it was not a function that I cared. However, it has a built-in computer.
-No HDMI. However, it was not a killer deal for me.
Two USB ports. Again, not a killer deal for me.
-You also have to disassemble the laptop (or almost everything, but the screen) if you choose to upgrade the RAM 2GB DDR3, which can be a daunting task for many.
Other comments:
This is a netbook with 1024×600 resolution and you may be able to play videos in 480p, but can be choppy. If you expect to play 720P you’ll want to look elsewhere because the screen resolution / video card will not allow you to watch it without the video / audio being agitated to the point where you will not be able to bear it.
I have read in other reviews that the laptop goes into sleep mode when you plug the charging adapter. This is true, however, you can change the settings to resolve the problem. I found the solution to be as follows: Go to Start, Control Panel, System and Security, System, Advanced system settings, Hardware, Device Manager, Network Cards, Wireless LAN, power management and uncheck the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” and finally click “OK”. Since I am that my netbook does not cut when the charging adapter is connected to the netbook.
As the netbook does not come with the recovery disk to restore your netbook should be crashing. I would recommend that to avoid paying for the software from Dell should be planted, the owners should connect an external CD burner and a CD copy program (Nero) and then they can create a recovery disk (in my case it took two cds).
I installed Avast anti-virus, Adobe Reader, Microsoft Office, CCleaner, Nero, Microsoft words, Instant Messenger and various other programs and so far they all work as expected.
Conclusion:
Bottom line this netbook is important to bring to school. He met my needs for portability, accessibility and delivery of basic computer and Web browsing needs. I bought this knowing it would not replace my laptop, however, I found myself using it more than I had originally intended it. I recommend that family and friends.

It looks like it will do the job!

I got my Dell Inspiron Mini netbook on Monday, but held meetings in the evening and did not open the box for a couple of days. I also read on the initiation process and I wanted to be ready for that. When I open the box, at first I was surprised (should not have been) in the absence of a disk of software of any kind. I handled a sample of this mini-laptop to a local dealer, so physically it was what I expected. And the box includes an AC power supply.
Be prepared to spend 1-2 hours initialization software (depending on whether you create the rescue disk – recommended). The software process was very simple. Not being familiar with Windows 7, I followed the installation guide to the letter. By then, the battery should be close to fully charged (based on my limited experience).
It’s a sleek little machine. The keyboard is as nice as other reviewers have said. The screen is great for a netbook. I will not be used as a substitute for my 46 “HDTV to watch movies! What did I get it? Travel! I want something I can use on work and leisure that ( 1) gives me better access (in my BlackBerry) to the Internet and corporate / personal email on the road, and (2) a way to download and store – in multiple locations and different media the results of my -. Research family history (mainly digital photographs) Obviously I’ll know more after my first trip with it, but I think this mini will be just what I need, and at a fraction of the weight of the laptop I dragged along in the past!

Good netbook

I bought the netbook for travel and that’s exactly what I wanted. I agree that it is slow compared to my office (w / 4 gigs of ram), but it is much faster than an old laptop I have and that was to replace the netbook. He did it beautifully.
I bought a USB optical drive for backup, and speakers to listen to Internet radio. The volume was sufficient if you are close to the netbook, but I used to listen from a distance, like a radio.
Also purchased a wireless mouse since I’m more comfortable with a touchpad mouse. All of these can be used with my other computers so that they are not related to netbook.
It hung on my wireless system without problems.
I hung my 42 ‘LCD TV and broadcast seamlessly Hulu, another surprise. It does stutter when I looked on the website White Collar USA. The picture does not fill the screen but it is excellent, even with White Collar. All that was needed to connect to my Visio was a VGA cable and a stereo cable. No other configuration was necessary. With a single concert and video on board, I did not expect to work as well as it did. (Also nice with the wireless mouse to control the netbook across the room.)
My guess is 2 gig ram for the video can help clear the site more White Collar, but I see no real need for additional ram at this point. Even with a transfer of the Win 7 Starter to something more robust. Starter is fine.
I did not remove any of the programs provided to date (which I usually do with a new computer to speed it up), but have no good reason. I have MS Office for small businesses and large works.
When the trial period ends for McAfee (still better than Norton) I’ll go through a general purge and replace, which I am sure will also speed up (my experience).
Overall, I am a very happy camper.

Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 Netbook (ep.7)

A nice netbook for surfing the net usual coffee.

I was after a new netbook (owner of an Eee 701) and thought I would go with the Dell this time.
I found the Dell the most attractive package in early 2010 for the follwoing reasons:
1. comes with the new Atom 450 (Nergy be somewhat more effective)
2. the 6-cell battery gives me more air time than the 3-cell batteries in many other netbooks.
3. the keyboard is a pleasure to type on quickly.
4. the case is not only beautiful but sturdy. No significant bending of any kind under pressure.
5. the screen is nice, vibrant colors.
6. touchpad is large and usable.
I was using the mini now for a couple of days and I’m not disappointed. I use it to surf the web of light, e-mail, and typing (basic classical applications of a netbook). In addition, I use it for streaming music in my Zune subscription.
My expectations are met. Windows Starter seems just a bit of a bottleneck in terms of included (or lack) characteristics from Home or Professional. I could not figure out how to save the Mini via a mapped network drive and as it is, there must be a lack (or blocked) function because of Windows 7 Starter Edition. Upgrade seems the best choice if you really want to use the mini for sharing and streaming home.
